Daniel Deronda
The novel of the same name written by George Eliot was the basis for the television drama Daniel Deronda, which was adapted by Andrew Davies for British television. Tom Hooper was the director of the serial, while Louis Marks was the producer. The serial was initially aired on BBC One in three parts between the 23rd of November and the 7th of December in the year 2002. Hugh Dancy played the role of Daniel Deronda in the serial, and Romola Garai, Hugh Bonneville, and Jodhi May took on the role of Gwendolen Harleth, Henleigh Grandcourt, and Mirah Lapidoth, respectively. The funding for the co-production came from WGBH Boston. After a drawn-out and ultimately futile process of casting, Louis Marks decided to give up on his plan to turn the novel into a film and instead focus on other creative endeavors. After those additional five years, the drama finally made its way into television screens. Locations in England, Scotland, and Malta were used during the 11 weeks of filming that took place between May and August. Before passing away in 2010, Marks finished his career in television with the production of the serial.
