Throughout World War II from the freezing Netherlands winter of 1944/1945 the western Netherlands are at the grip of a famine. Lots of men and women move east to supply to their families. Fourteen year-old Michiel cannot wait to combine with the resistance, to the dismay of the dad, who, as mayor, works to reduce escalations in the village.
