Bisbee '17
It's 2017 in Bisbee, Arizona, an old copper-mining community simply miles from the Mexican border. The community's dense community prepares to memorialize the 100th wedding anniversary of Bisbee's darkest hour: the well known Bisbee Deportation of 1917, throughout which 1,200 striking miners were violently taken from their residences, banished to the middle of the desert, as well as delegated pass away. Townspeople challenge this fierce, misinterpreted past by presenting dramatic entertainments of the intensifying strike. These dramatized scenes are based upon subjective versions of the tale and "directed," in a sense, by homeowners with contradictory sights of the event. Deeply individual sectors torn from family history build toward an enormous restaging of the deportation itself on the exact day of its 100th wedding anniversary.
