Piñero
"Piero" tells the story of a Latino icon, gay poet-playwright-actor Miguel Piero, whose urban poetry is regarded as a forerunner to rap and hip-hop. Piero's prison experiences inspired the 1974 Tony-nominated play Short Eyes, which he wrote while serving time in hard-core Sing-Sing for petty thefts and drug dealing. The ensuing notoriety and fame were too much for the Latino bad-boy genius, who retreated to New York's seedier neighborhoods.
